SpectroBUS18 is a stand-alone single board computer and is ideal for the engineer, hobbyist and educator alike. All control and I/O signals are made available through the14 pin and 16 pin female connectors located along the top and bottom of SpectroBUS18. Additionally, custom circuits can be created on SpectroPRO prototyping boards that can be plugged into, and removed from, the SpectroBUS18 system quickly and easily. SpectroBUS18 is completely re-configurable and re-usable for your current and future embedded projects.

Most importantly, SpectroBUS18 is a "motherboard" that allows the development of embedded systems by simply plugging in various "Device Modules". These devices are designed to perform specific and complex tasks while the control of these tasks by the HOST PICmicro (SpectroBUS18) remains extremely simple. Using bus architecture, system resources are kept to a minimum. For example, using two SpectroTECH device modules for the support of a four by twenty LCD and a four by four matrix keypad, combined these devices require only four I/O lines. Now consider that a four by four matrix keypad will normally use eight I/O lines and the LCD will require a minimum of five, totaling thirteen valuable I/O lines. With most 18-pin PICmicro's only having thirteen I/O lines you would have exhausted all available I/O with just these two functions.

With most conventional prototyping systems, typically there is an area where the user adds custom circuitry, once this has been done then the entire system becomes dedicated to that project and can never be used for anything else. With the SpectroBUS18 system you can quickly and easily move from one project to the next simply by adding or removing device modules including any custom circuitry built on SpectroPRO prototyping boards.

Features:

  • SpectroBUS18 comes complete with your choice of any one SpectroXTAL card, AC Adapter, PicBasic Pro programming examples and the new PIC16F88 PIC Micro.
  • SpectroBUS18 can be used as a stand-alone single board computer that requires no additional components.
  • Accommodates one to six device modules for support of LCD's, keypads, RS232, RF, USB and more. Check our website for new device modules as they become available.
  • Change the clock speed of your SpectroBUS18 from 4 -20 MHz simply by plugging in the appropriate oscillator card.
  • Build custom circuits on SpectroPRO prototyping boards that simply plug into your SpectroBUS18.
  • SpectroBUS18 supports In-Circuit Serial Programming, or the HOST PICmicro can be removed for programming and replaced with ease using the SpectroZIF plug-in card, (Zero Insertion Force socket).
  • High quality two sided circuit board with silkscreen signal identification, On/Off switch, On Board Power Regulator, Selectable Power On LED, Debug Monitor port and a socket for an AC power adapter.
  • Compact size makes it small enough to be used in hand held equipment, just 5.75 by 2.5 inches.
  • The following is a list of supported 18-Pin PICmicro's:16C54C, 16C554, 16C558, 16C56(A), 16C58(AB), 16C620(A), 16C621(A), 16C622(A), 16C71, 16C710, 16C711, 16C712, 16C715, 16C716, 16C717, 16CE623, 16CE624, 16CE625, 16F54, 16F627, 16F627A, 16F628, 16F628A, 16F648A, 16F716, 16F818, 16F819, 16F83, 16F84(A), 16F87, 16F88, 16HV540
